Derek Henderson, P.E.
Principal / Senior Structural Engineer
Derek has been practicing structural engineering since 1999 and is recognized as an industry expert in the design of timber structures such as, high-end residential homes, traditional timber frame and mass timber buildings, and log structures. Prior to receiving his engineering degree at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Derek worked in the residential construction industry for eight years as a lead framing contractor. His hands-on construction experience has enabled him to create innovative and cost-effective design solutions for Anthem’s clients, as well as the ability to respond effectively and economically to construction issues when they arise. As a licensed Professional Engineer, Derek’s design and project management experience covers a wide range of project types, including residential, commercial, higher education, mixed-use, office, and senior living facilities. In addition to his widespread knowledge of wood design, he also has extensive experience with seismic design, concrete, masonry, and steel construction. Derek has helped shape the residential communities along Colorado’s Front Range and mountain resort towns like Steamboat Springs, Aspen, Winter Park, Vail, and Big Sky, Montana.
Derek manages the day to day operations as the company’s Integrator for Anthem along with his business partner, Dan Knapp. Derek is passionate about what he does and who he works with, and brings this enthusiasm to every project he’s involved with. He enjoys helping Anthem’s clients realize and structure their designs. When Derek is not engineering, he can be found mountain biking or snow skiing in the Colorado high country. Derek also leads a 35-person mountain bike cycling race team.
